Monday, January 12 began a four-day trial in San Diego, California. The trial was a showdown - a culmination of a lawsuit by SHARK and the San Diego-based Animal Protection and Rescue League against the San Diego Rodeo.
For four days, Bryan Pease shined a light on the abuse, the injuries, and the deaths, while the fake cowboys refused to take responsibility for their actions by touting rodeo propaganda that would be laughable if it weren’t for the animal abuse.
The trial largely focused on Waco Kid and Pearl Necklace, two horses needlessly killed for people living in John Wayne fantasyland. In 2024, Waco Kid crashed at full speed into a fence after being blinded by a pointless ornamental headband during a race on the very first night of the rodeo. Waco Kid immediately collapsed and began seizing.

Though he was still alive, Waco Kid would never walk again. He should have been put down immediately, but rodeo thugs knew that would be a bad look, so they did what they always do - they lied.
What no one knew until Bryan dug into the case was that no X-rays or scans were taken of Waco Kid. An incomplete, incompetent examination predictably resulted in a lack of accurate information.
After failing to X-ray Waco Kid at the rodeo arena, he was moved to the Helen Woodward Animal Hospital. And still, rodeo veterinarian Tim Eastman failed to take any X-rays or scans.
Helen Woodward’s veterinarian, Rodrigo Vazquez, stated that he felt Waco Kid’s chances of recovery were “very slim.” The following day, Waco Kid’s owner, Lloyd Vigen reportedly loaded the still helpless Waco Kid onto a trailer for a trip of 1800 miles to North Dakota in the middle of winter.
In 2025, a second horse would be sacrificed on the altar of John Wayne wannabes. Pearl Necklace, a pregnant, near-term mare, was forced to buck for the fake cowboys, resulting in a uterine artery rupture.
Rodeo personnel, including the rodeo veterinarian Tim Eastman stated that they were unaware that Pearl Necklace was pregnant at all, much less close to giving birth. So much for any claim that rodeo thugs are animal experts, even those with veterinary licenses.

There were other animals who were injured. In one case, a calf was apparently blinded when a rope ripped across his eyes. Video showed the calf throwing his head around in obvious pain. In another case, Veterinarian Eastman texted another rodeo thug that he would give a quick look at an injured bull, “…so I can tell them I laid my eyes on him.”
The Padres’ apparent position in this obvious shitshow is that because they didn’t pay the veterinarians present when multiple animals were injured and killed during multiple years at the rodeo the Padres sponsored, the Padres have no responsibility for the cruelty to, and suffering of the animal victims. That is a preposterous and cowardly position.
On Tuesday, the judge will render his verdict, and we will let you know what that is.
