John,I am heartbroken by the events that occurred this past weekend in Minnesota. I am horrified and disgusted that ICE has been allowed to kill yet another person. My heart is with the victim’s loved ones and the entire Minneapolis community which continues to stand up to Trump and ICE’s tyranny.

We’re no strangers to this tyranny here in North Carolina, with ICE conducting “operations” right here in NC-04. Federal immigration officers have been abusing their power and violating people's rights.

ICE puts every single one of us at risk. Trump is allowing a federal agency to violate rights and take lives, and Congress' continued inaction is complicity.

I understand how difficult it is to feel optimistic right now, John. With Republicans controlling both the House and the Senate and continuing to enable the President regardless of how illegal or immoral his actions may be, it’s an understandable concern.

But I won’t stand by while this Administration terrorizes our communities and allows a federal agency to violate rights and take lives.

* I voted NO on the DHS appropriations bill that includes funding for ICE
* I’ve introduced impeachment legislation for Secretary Kristi Noem
* I've been proud to support legislation that forces transparency upon this rogue agency, and to have voted against further supporting ICE
* I've called on my colleagues in Congress to join me before more lives are lost

The fatal shootings in Minneapolis and other incidents across the country are devastating. This administrations' actions are a profound abuse of power, a violation of civil rights, and a stain on our democracy.

Enough is enough. ICE needs to get out of our communities.
