I was trafficked for two years.
Most people imagine trafficking happens far away - in dark alleys or foreig=
n countries.
To =E2=80=9Cother people.=E2=80=9D
But my nightmare happened in the suburbs of Detroit.
I lived at home.
I went to high school.
And no one noticed.
On the worst night of my life, I was taken to a dirty motel room and auctio=
ned off to nearly two dozen men.
I remember the smell of the room.
The fear in my chest.
And the silence I was forced to keep.
I survived.
But many do not.=20

That=E2=80=99s why I partner with the Sound of Freedom Foundation.
Through education and intervention, they equip frontline partners to do wha=
t most systems never taught=E2=80=94help ordinary people to recognize traff=
icking before it=E2=80=99s too late.
Partners supported by Sound of Freedom Foundation train hotel employees=E2=
=80=94men and women working in places like the motel I was taken to =E2=80=
=94 to see what they were never taught to look for.
To notice what others miss.
And to report it.
This is how prevention becomes possible.

The majority of trafficking in America happens in hotels and motels.
And it spikes around large sports events, conventions and concerts - anywhe=
re demand increases.

Human trafficking is the second-largest criminal enterprise in the worl=
d.
In the United States alone, 9 out of 10 missing children are trafficked=
.
If a child is not found within 48 hours, the risk of trafficking skyroc=
kets.
The average age of a trafficked child is 12 to 14 years old.
These are children
These are children.
Not criminals.
Not =E2=80=9Cprostitutes.=E2=80=9D
Children.

I went to high school.

On the worst night of my life, I was taken to a dirty motel room and auctioned off to nearly two dozen men.
I remember the smell of the room.
The fear in my chest.
And the silence I was forced to keep.
I survived.
But many do not.

Here's the truth most people don’t know.
The majority of trafficking in America happens in hotels and motels.
And it spikes around large sports events, conventions and concerts - anywhere demand increases.
There’s more you should know.
Human trafficking is the second-largest criminal enterprise in the world.
In the United States alone, 9 out of 10 missing children are trafficked.
If a child is not found within 48 hours, the risk of trafficking skyrockets.
The average age of a trafficked child is 12 to 14 years old.
These are children
These are children.
Not criminals.
Not “prostitutes.”
Children.
