SUNDAY SPOTLIGHT
Sunday is the golden clasp that binds together the volume of the week.
H. W. Longfellow
A long, warm read for a snowy day: five years ago, Patricia Snow told the story of her initiation into the Catholic Church in three parts. The series is one of the greatest testimonies published in First Things.
Week after week, I came to the church and I suffered as the conflict between my desire to surrender and my terror of being deceived generated a friction so great it was as if I literally burst into flames.
All around me in this traditional church there were unfamiliar devotions and rich food for the eyes: real candles and curtained confessionals, an architecture that oriented me to the new life I had chosen.
