Trump’s second year in office is getting off to a rocky start. In recent weeks, polling has shown that more and more Americans aren’t happy with his presidency. Eric Michael Garcia, the Washington bureau chief with the Independent, joined Edwin Eisendrath to discuss a growing disconnect between leaders from both parties in D.C. and the rest of the country.
Take this week’s House vote to fund the Department of Homeland Security. Republicans are running from their faith and refuse to criticize ICE. For Democrats, funding the agency’s brutality should be a red line. Yet several Democrats voted to continue to fund ICE. But something may be happening. Garcia notes that a surprising amount of Dems from Trump districts voted no.
