The U.S. House of Representatives just passed a bill that would fast-track projects that could pollute and destroy our most cherished public places.1

From lush forests to labyrinths of canyons, rich wetland ecosystems to expansive prairies, America is a land of natural wonders.

These natural landscapes have been set aside for the enjoyment of Americans for generations. It's time to stand up for them before they're marred by drilling rigs and turned inside out by mining.

Tell our U.S. senators: Don't make it easier for companies to lay waste to our public lands.

The SPEED Act would erase environmental protections and give companies a fast pass to mine, drill and otherwise destroy our special places.

Right now, when a company proposes mining near the Grand Canyon or drilling around Colorado's Royal Gorge, a series of steps are taken.

Scientists must review the project and analyze its impact on the environment. Local communities have time to consider the ways the project might affect their health. Individuals and organizations can submit public comments on whether or not they support the project.2

These review systems are in place to protect our environment and our own health.

But this bill would reduce the scope of environmental review, stifle public input and limit lawsuits against approved projects, even if they cause harm.3

Our public lands are our heritage -- they are where Americans go to hike, camp, hunt and fish. It should be the responsibility of Congress to protect them, not open them up to destructive and polluting industries.

Tell our U.S. senators: Put the environment and the American people ahead of polluters.
