Welcome to Catch Up With Young Kim, my weekly e-newsletter to get you the latest on my work for you in Congress.
This week, I voted to advance a responsible government funding package that strengthens our national defense, revitalizes health care and workforce training, secures our borders, and modernizes U.S. transportation infrastructure.
By passing these final minibus bills, Congress is returning to regular order—moving past wasteful stopgaps. That’s how our government is supposed to work: delivering the stability, accountability, and certainty Americans deserve.
According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, California spent $1.3B in federal taxpayer dollars on healthcare for illegal immigrants. I’m demanding accountability and holding Gavin Newsom’s feet to the fire for answers that Californians deserve.
I visited Peru’s Cerro Verde Mine to see firsthand how partnerships in our own backyard can help safeguard, secure, and strengthen America’s critical mineral supply chains—before China gets to them.
California recently received an F in housing.
This week in the House Financial Services Committee, I emphasized common sense approaches to making housing more affordable, reducing homelessness, and ensuring that good credit is attainable and accessible to all hardworking Americans.
I was pleased to honor the wonderful 40+ students from our community who participated in the Congressional App Challenge in 2025.
Congratulations to Olivia Skeete, a senior at Portola High School, who was named the overall winner for her app, TeenCivics! Using AI-powered tools, TeenCivics makes it easier for teens to access legislative, judicial, and executive updates and engage in the political process.
We’re so proud of her achievement, and congratulations to all who participated in this challenge!
This week, I met with New Zealand Ambassador-designate Chris Seed to discuss congressional priorities and Indo-Pacific and South Pacific security.
This week, I met with Japanese Embassy Congressional Minister Ken Ono to discuss regional security, Japan–U.S.–ROK trilateral cooperation, and our vital partnership in the Indo-Pacific.
Always grateful for our Indo-Pacific allies!
This week, we celebrated 75 years of leadership by the Municipal Water District of Orange County. Founded on the belief that regional collaboration is stronger than going it alone, MWDOC has helped secure water, protect public health, and power Orange County’s growth—then and now.
Cheers to 75 years of service and leadership!
This week, we celebrated the ribbon cutting and grand opening of medical offices in Aliso Viejo by Kaiser.
The new location provides high quality care with efficiency and accessibility for the community to visit their doctor, get lab tests, fill prescriptions, and more.
Congratulations to the Aliso Creek Medical Office and thank you for the care you provide.
This week, we honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his enduring call to equality, dignity, & justice for all.
May we continue to live out his legacy by listening to his words of judging others by the content of character, not the color of their skin.
After one year of Donald Trump's presidency, America's borders are secured, gas prices are down, American jobs are back, and millions of American families are receiving tax relief.
Promises have been kept and the best is yet to come!
Congratulations to the incredible California athletes representing Team USA in the Winter Olympics & Paralympics this year!
We are rooting for you!
