Across Michigan, I’ve been hearing the same thing again and again: People are scared.
And that fear is coming from the federal agency that’s supposed to protect our communities. An agency whose leadership has lost the trust of the very people it’s meant to serve.
Right now, the Department of Homeland Security is failing at its most basic responsibility. And at the top of that department is Secretary Kristi Noem.
That’s why I joined more than 100 of my colleagues in co-sponsoring articles of impeachment against Secretary Noem.
This is not a decision I made lightly. It’s not political theater. It’s a last resort.
Under the Trump administration, ICE has been deployed into cities despite opposition from local leaders – bypassing mayors, police chiefs, and all the people responsible for keeping communities safe.
The result? Confusion. Escalation. Tragedy.
We’ve seen deadly confrontations. Protests. Families caught in the chaos. Cities like Minneapolis, and communities right here in Michigan, are now living with the consequences of reckless, unaccountable federal enforcement.
Here’s the truth: When public safety starts to feel like a threat, something has gone terribly wrong.
Why impeachment?
Because Secretary Noem has repeatedly ignored my calls, and those of many others, to investigate deadly incidents tied to DHS and ICE operations.
Incidents like:
The killing of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis
The death of Nenko Gantchev at the North Lake Processing Center in Baldwin, Michigan
These are not headlines. They are human beings. Families deserve answers. Communities deserve justice.
But instead of accountability, we’ve gotten silence and continued abuses of power. No investigations. No action. No recognition that anything needs to change.
And so, I was left with no choice.
ICE is not making our communities safer.
Under Secretary Noem, and at Donald Trump’s direction, ICE has been used to go after families and children, not to ensure public safety.
Federal agents have been sent into neighborhoods without warning. Local leaders have been cut out of the process. Families have been harassed, not protected.
In Minneapolis, that recklessness led to the death of an American citizen. In Michigan, it’s led to fear, confusion, and distrust.
Local leaders warned this would happen. They were ignored. Instead, the administration doubled down – even floating the use of the Insurrection Act to send in the military and threatening to cut funding from states that push back.
That’s weaponizing federal power for political gain.
This is not leadership. It’s an abuse of power. Secretary Noem is failing to keep people safe
Accountability matters
I know this won’t be easy – Republicans currently control Congress. And many have shown they’d rather protect Donald Trump than stand up for what’s right.
But I was elected to fight for what’s right, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do.
When someone in power ignores oversight, deflects responsibility, and presides over deadly outcomes, I won’t stay silent.
I’ll stand up. I’ll speak out. I’ll demand better.
I’m doing this for the Michiganders afraid to answer the door. For families who deserve answers. For communities who deserve safety, not fear.
And I won’t stop fighting until there’s justice. That’s what Michigan deserves.
With grit,
Haley
A personal note from Haley 👋

I’m a lifelong Michigander and the daughter of small-business owners. I’ve spent my career fighting for Michigan’s working families – and now I’m running for the U.S. Senate to keep standing up for the people I love.

But here’s the truth: Senate control could come down to Michigan. And Trump and his megadonors know it. That’s why they’re gearing up to spend tens of millions to defeat me and hand this seat to a MAGA Republican.

I need your help to fight back. This race will be one of the most competitive – and expensive – in the country, and I’m counting on grassroots support to win.

If you’re with me, will you chip in today?
Paid for by Haley Stevens for Senate.
