A Note From the Desk of Congresswoman Letlow
A new year brings new opportunities to serve the people of Louisiana and to continue working on the issues that matter most to you. As Congress begins its work in 2026, I remain committed to listening to your concerns, learning from your experiences, and advocating on your behalf in Washington. Your feedback and engagement help guide my work every day.
Over the next few days, Louisiana is facing severe weather including freezing temperatures and icy conditions. For informational resources you can visit my website here.
Please know that my office is always here to assist you. If you have questions, concerns, or ideas you would like to share, I encourage you to reach out to my team or visit our website at any time. Together, we will move Louisiana forward, and I look forward to our collective accomplishments in the year ahead.
Sincerely,
Julia Letlow, Ph.D.
Member of Congress
Fighting for President Trump’s Priorities
As our work in Congress begins in 2026, I will continue working alongside President Trump, Speaker Mike Johnson, and Majority Leader Steve Scalise to deliver a conservative agenda. This includes growing our economy, lowering costs, supporting public safety and unleashing American energy production. I will also continue to advocate for our farmers and 5th District communities from Bastrop to Bunkie and Baton Rouge to Bogalusa.
Funding Bills Advance to Cut Spending and Strengthen Accountability
Last Fall we had an unnecessary government shutdown due to DC Democrats’ pushing a political agenda over responsible governance. In the months since, we have worked with President Trump to ensure that we complete our work on time to fund the government and responsibly allocate taxpayer dollars.
With a deadline of January 30, I’m pleased to report that all 12 funding bills required to fund the government have advanced through the House. These bills reflect a commitment to cutting unnecessary spending, strengthening accountability, and ensuring taxpayer dollars are used wisely. These measures are supported by President Trump and prioritize fiscal responsibility while pushing for more accountability in government spending.
Delivering for Louisiana Law Enforcement
As the only member of Congress from Louisiana serving on the House Appropriations Committee, I give my district a strong seat at the table in Washington. I use that role to support crucial needs in Louisiana, such as fighting crime and protecting public safety. I secured $2.7 million in Community Project Funding to support law enforcement in the Capital Region as well as small towns in Northeast and Central Louisiana. This funding, included in the FY 2026 Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations bill, will be used to purchase new, fully outfitted police cruisers and law enforcement technology, helping officers better serve and protect local neighborhoods. I will continue working to ensure law enforcement has the resources needed to keep our communities safe.
Holding Fraudsters Accountable and Defending Taxpayers
Fraudsters in Minnesota stole billions of taxpayer dollars that were intended to care for the most vulnerable among us like hungry children, disabled Americans, and the elderly. When these funds are misused, it is not Washington that suffers most, but families and individuals who rely on these programs during their hardest moments.
Protecting taxpayer dollars through strong oversight is essential to ensuring that assistance reaches those who truly need it. The State of Minnesota failed to protect taxpayers, enriching criminals and stealing resources from individuals in need. I, alongside President Trump, will continue pursuing the truth, fighting for taxpayers, and holding criminal fraudsters accountable.
Fighting for Life
I’m committed to protecting unborn life as well as the health of our moms and babies. My work in Congress reflects my commitment to the pro-life cause, which is why the Susan B. Anthony List recently gave me a 100% score for my commitment to protecting innocent life. I’ve also worked to support adoption and the maternal health needs faced by expecting mothers, and will continue to champion these causes in Congress.
