Dear Friends,
It was a busy week on the Hill, with many crucial votes and meetings taking place to deliver results for our families, our district, and our democracy.
This week’s work was about protecting our families, defending our values, and keeping our communities safe. I took action to support healthy pregnancies and newborns, safeguard our allies, and hold leaders accountable to the law.
I’m also bringing back federal funds to our district to strengthen neighborhoods and create opportunities. If you have thoughts, concerns, or ideas, I want to hear from you; click here to email me.

I am proud to share that my PREEMIE Reauthorization Act of 2025 officially passed the House as part of the health funding bill to address this urgent crisis. With preterm birth rates in the U.S. rising from 9.8% to 10.4% from 2013 to 2023, it was clear that bold action was needed to protect our most vulnerable.
This legislation secures vital funding for research, education, and interventions designed to reduce infant mortality and improve pregnancy outcomes nationwide. By prioritizing these resources, we are ensuring that every baby has a healthy start to life and every mother receives the necessary support before, during, and after labor.

I introduced an amendment to stop President Trump from using defense funds to threaten or attack Greenland or Denmark and to block any attempt to purchase Greenland. It is dangerous and unacceptable for any president to even suggest military force against our closest allies.
This kind of reckless behavior puts global stability at risk and undermines the trust that keeps our world safe. His words and actions show he is testing how far he can go, and Congress has a responsibility to set firm limits. I took action to safeguard our alliances, uphold democracy, and prevent America from entering needless and hazardous conflicts.

Secretary Noem has weaponized DHS and unleashed ICE to run amok in our cities, putting Americans and immigrants alike at risk. I refuse to fund her reign of terror that allows warrantless arrests, constitutional violations, and chaos in our communities, especially after Congress already gave ICE $75 billion and we saw the damage of Operation Midway Blitz in Chicago.
That is why I voted NO on the Homeland Security funding bill, and why I am using every tool in our toolbox, including impeachment, the power of the purse, aggressive oversight, and investigations, to hold Secretary Noem and DHS accountable.
Last week I introduced articles of impeachment, and support is growing. I have over 110 of my colleagues standing with me. We are sending a clear message that no one is above the law and are vigorously defending our constitution.

I’m proud to bring back $12,954,000 in federal dollars for community projects across Illinois’s Second District. These projects invest in safer streets, stronger infrastructure, workforce development, clean water systems, and neighborhood revitalization by putting real dollars behind the projects our communities need.
These funds mean progress for Chicago, Paxton, South Holland, Rantoul, Hazel Crest, and beyond, and they reflect my commitment to fighting for every federal dollar our district deserves. The bill now heads to the Senate, and I will keep pushing to get it signed into law so this money can get to work for our families.

On MS NOW’s Weekend: Primetime, I spoke about why I introduced articles of impeachment against Secretary Noem for obstructing Congress, violating the public trust, and engaging in self-dealing. I exposed her serious failures at DHS, including a $220 million no-bid contract and dangerous, unlawful actions by ICE that put lives and civil rights at risk.
With more than 110 House Democrats standing with me, we are sending a clear message that Secretary Noem must be held accountable. The American people are demanding better, and I will persist until we restore the rule of law and safeguard our communities.
