House Passes Final Government Funding Bills

Image

The House of Representatives has now passed all twelve annual government funding bills.

Despite the uphill battle we faced in this process, this legislation delivers on our commitment to rein in federal spending, root out waste, and refocus taxpayer dollars on the challenges in front of us.

We are meeting the threats of Communist China head on, with historic investments into our nuclear triad and domestic missile defense capabilities.

We prioritized rural America by investing in rural health centers, rural education and apprenticeships for a strong workforce, and essential housing programs for Tribal communities.

I am also delighted to announce I have secured over $25 million in funding to go directly to projects at home in Central Washington.

As we prepare to begin the Fiscal Year 2027 appropriations process, I will continue to put the priorities of Washington’s Fourth District first and keep working to make sure we are responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars.

Hydropower Bill Clears House Committee

Image

On Wednesday, the House Energy and Commerce Committee passed my legislation, H.R. 2072, which is the last step before a vote on the House floor.

This legislation requires the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to extend the time period during which licensees are required to start construction of several hydropower projects across the country.

We know in Central Washington that our hydroelectric dams are a reliable source of baseload power that keep the lights on when we need it most. This legislation opens the door for communities across the country to also reap those benefits, and I will continue working to get this important legislation across the finish line.

YES: H.R. 5763 - Main Street Parity Act. Removes a statutorily required additional five percent equity requirement for limited or single purpose properties under the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) 504 loan program.

YES: H.R. 5764 - AI for Main Street Act. Directs Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) to assist small business owners in evaluating and adopting artificial intelligence (AI) by providing guidance, training, and outreach.

YES: H.R. 6945 - Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act. This bill would amend federal law to clarify that the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program does not, and cannot be construed to, prohibit States from using TANF funds to support pregnancy resource centers.

YES: H.J. Res. 140 - Minnesota Mining CRA. This CRA disapproves of PLO 7917 and reverses the Biden Administration's mining ban in Northern Minnesota. If passed, thanks to the CRA's substantially similar provision, this resolution would prevent the Department of the Interior from enacting substantially similar withdrawals in the future. It would finally give certainty to Twin Metals and important proposed projects the certainty they need and would protect them from the next Democrat administration that wants to shut down mining in Northern Minnesota.

YES: H.R. 6359 - Pregnant Students’ Rights. Would require colleges to provide proper information to pregnant women about their rights and available resources as pregnant students and ensure these women feel supported on college campuses. These protections and options available to pregnant students include, and are not limited to, flexible class schedules, excused absences, and childcare assistance.

NO: H. Con. Res. 68 - Rep. McGovern War Powers Resolution. Directs the removal of United States Armed Forces from Venezuela that have not been authorized by congress. Secretary Rubio has confirmed that there are no U.S. troops in Venezuela.

The Future of American Nuclear Energy

Image

On Thursday, I had a great conversation with The Ripon Society, alongside my friend and colleague from Tennessee, Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, about the future of American nuclear energy and the role it will play in meeting our rapidly growing demand.

Our domestic nuclear capabilities have barely grown in the last 20 years, and China is outpacing us in development and deployment. If we are to be competitive on the world stage, the U.S. must prioritize an innovative nuclear fleet that meets our needs and ensures we are energy independent from foreign adversaries.
