Tyler’s Law Passed The Senate HELP Committee
Last week, my bill Tyler’s Law passed unanimously out of the Senate HELP Committee. Tyler‘s Law directs HHS to study whether hospitals should include fentanyl in routine emergency room drug screens and then issue clear guidance based on the results. Right now, too many standard ER drug tests don’t screen for fentanyl, which can cost someone their life.
The bill is named after Tyler Shamash, a teenager who tragically died after fentanyl poisoning was not screened for in a standard five panel drug test. As a result, he did not receive the level of care he needed.
I want to especially thank Tyler‘s mom, Juli. She turned unimaginable loss into action. I recently met with Juli and am inspired by her dedication and passion. This bill would not be moving forward without her courage and persistence.
I am proud to see this bill move forward and will keep pushing to get it signed into law. Click here to learn more.
