This weekend, a huge winter storm will impact half of the country. Power outages are expected, so prepare if you can!

Power outages are increasing with climate-change-fueled storms, and at the same time, prices for electricity and other utilities are soaring.

That’s why I’m leading the fight in Congress to erase utility debt and bring down the cost of life-saving utilities. This involves challenging Big Tech billionaires.

Did you know that Big Tech companies’ AI data centers are driving up local energy prices by nearly 270%?

These rapidly expanding data centers also take up a lot of land, and each one requires millions of gallons of water every day to cool servers and other equipment. This water evaporates, and what’s left often pollutes local drinking water—sometimes leading to massive increases in cancer rates near data centers.

Powered by dirty fossil fuels, these data centers are contributing further to the climate crisis. People living near these centers are speaking up about not only water pollution but also air pollution and toxic smells, as well as noise and light pollution.

Many of my constituents are trying to stop multiple proposed data centers in my district. They don’t want for-profit companies to steal and pollute our land, water, and air.

Despite public outcry, local leaders in my district are moving ahead with the plans anyway.

Some officials believe that new data centers bring jobs, but that only happens during a brief construction period. Only a few people stay on to run each data center long-term.

But the tech industry lies, and they are often given tax breaks for constructing these centers. That means our communities are subsidizing these polluting projects with our tax dollars.

Our leaders should understand the threats these data centers pose, and prioritize protecting their communities rather than helping Big Tech profit at our expense. But many don’t yet understand, so we need to get louder.

Already in my home state of Michigan, multiple towns have successfully rallied and moved their local leaders to reverse plans and revoke licenses for these projects. People power works!
