Dear Herbert,
When we talk about making schools safer, the conversation often stays focused on locks and alarms. While those physical protections are a key aspect of safety, they are only one part of the solution.
Stand with Parkland — The National Association of Families for Safe Schools — believes true security begins long before a threat ever reaches a school door. That is why improving mental health screening and support programs is critical to our mission.
- Early Intervention: Comprehensive mental health screening allows us to identify students who are falling through the cracks at school.
- Building a Support System: It’s important that at-risk students aren’t just identified, but are given the professional help they need to navigate their challenges. This means investing in the mental health programs and resources they need.
Our goal is to work with leaders on both sides of the aisle to develop policies and enact laws to address every factor that leads to violence in our schools. That includes ensuring every K-12 school has the resources to access these life-saving programs, like Behavioral Threat and Management teams. We must be proactive to prevent tragedy.
Your donation fuels action. Can you chip in today to help us drive the change your schools so desperately need?
