Hard seltzer may be the biggest shift ‘since light beer’

The continued popularity of hard seltzers shows that it might not be just a trend but rather a shift in consumers' drinking preferences. Boston Beer Co. CEO Dave Burwick believes it might even be one of the biggest shifts for the beer category since light beer was launched in the late ’70s. “Millennials… are not drinking as much as the people who came before them, but they’re drinking better. When you look at those trends of health and wellness, variety seeking and premiumization, it all supports the growth of this hard seltzer category,” Burwick said.

Cicerone diversity

Eugenia Brown, founder of Charlotte-based brand Beer Chick, is looking to increase diversity in the beer world. "Typically, when you think craft beer, you don't think black girl,” said Brown. She started a campaign to pay for 50 minority women to take the Cicerone Level 1 Certified Beer Server exam. Then donations started coming in and she was able to help fund beer certifications for 100 minority women.

Kroger grocery store building robotic distribution center

As part of its grocery delivery expansion, Kroger is reportedly working with an automated warehouse technology company to build a 350,000-square-foot distribution center in Maryland. The project is expected to help Kroger better keep up with online orders demand.
