Dear friend,

A winter storm is expected to impact North Carolina’s 9th District this weekend. Forecasts are calling for freezing temperatures and ice accumulation that could make travel dangerous and lead to power outages in parts of our region.

I encourage everyone to prepare now by checking local forecasts, reviewing emergency plans, and stocking essential supplies such as food, water, medications, flashlights, and batteries. Ice on power lines and tree limbs may cause outages that could last longer than usual in some areas.

Road conditions may deteriorate quickly, especially overnight and during early morning hours.

Please limit travel if possible and check conditions before heading out at drivenc.gov.

If you lose power and plan to use a generator, follow all safety guidance. Never operate generators indoors or near doors, windows, or vents due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Please check on neighbors, seniors, veterans, and anyone who may need assistance during extended cold or power outages. For statewide updates, winter weather preparedness tips, and shelter information, visit ReadyNC.gov.

My office is monitoring the situation closely and remains in contact with state and local officials.

Please stay safe and take care of one another.

Sincerely,
