a message with you from Scott Nakagawa — a longtime organizer, movement
strategist, and trusted advisor to Women’s March.
Scott has spent decades studying how people defeat authoritarian power.
What he’s seeing right now matters for all of us. Here’s his message:
Here’s what decades of civil resistance research shows: authoritarians
cannot rule without our cooperation. They need our labor, our money, our
compliance.
When we withdraw that cooperation — strategically and at scale —
authoritarian power doesn’t just weaken. It collapses.
The 900+ walkouts this week, and the calls for no work, no school, and no
shopping, aren’t symbolic. They’re opening moves in a shift from defense
to offense.
This is how people have defeated authoritarianism before — by making
repression unsustainable.
