Dear Friend,

January 20th marked the first year of President Donald Trump’s second term in office–a year of historic victories. Our Republican trifecta passed the largest tax cut in American history, secured our borders, ended the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) mandates the Biden administration established, and much more. We’re doing the job that Americans elected us to do and will continue to do so.

Securing Our Country

This week, I introduced the Stop Citizenship Abuse and Misrepresentation (SCAM) Act to restore integrity to the naturalization process. This legislation clarifies and expands the grounds for denaturalization within ten years if a naturalized citizen defrauds government programs, joins a terrorist organization, or commits an aggravated felony or espionage. Through this, we will put an end to the rampant abuse of our immigration system and strengthen it for those who come to the United States with good intentions. I am committed to safeguarding our nation from avoidable harm, and this legislation does just that. As we examine the billions of dollars that have been stolen from Minnesota taxpayers, 90% of those charged with fraud crimes are of Somali descent. It is crucial that individuals defrauding the country, like those in Minnesota, can be held accountable and face consequences for their actions.

Reversing Biden’s Mining Ban

Under the Biden administration, politically-motivated stunts banned mining in Northern Minnesota, which is the world’s largest untapped copper-nickel deposit. This Biden-era mining ban stifled growth, killed jobs, and put our nation’s mineral security at risk. Fellow Minnesotan and Congressman Pete Stauber’s Congressional Review Act, which would reverse the ban and bring mining back to Northern Minnesota, passed with support from both Republicans and a Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday. It will strengthen mineral security through responsible mining practices and will bring back thousands of good-paying jobs to help families and grow our economy. It’s a win for Minnesota and America’s national security!

Reforming Housing and Rooting Out Fraud

Image

Housing affordability is one of the most pressing challenges facing Minnesota families in both urban and rural communities. Rising costs and increasing demand are putting a strain on everyone. On Wednesday, I spoke to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner during a House Financial Services Committee hearing on this issue and his work to root out fraud within housing programs in Minnesota. HUD has a responsibility to ensure that taxpayer dollars are properly safeguarded. As a part of this, HUD has been investigating fraudsters. So far, they’ve found that during the last year of the Biden administration, Minnesota received nearly $85 million for fraudulent federal housing assistance payments–some of this money even went to dead tenants. Thankfully, President Trump and Secretary Turner are leading where Tim Walz and the Democrats have failed by holding these fraudsters accountable. Rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse in HUD will ensure that resources are directed to those who they were originally created to help.

Our efforts to defend America against fraud, grow our economy, and make sure federal departments are working for Minnesotans are working. If there is anything I can do for you, please reach out to my office. It’s an honor to represent you in Washington, D.C.

Sincerely,
