EARN Notice January 2026

Greetings EARN community,

I’m writing this EARN Notice letter from the suburbs of Minneapolis. After years of rightwing commentators falsely trying to portray the Twin Cities as a war zone, the Trump Administration has finally made it one themselves. They have deployed thousands of federal agents who are kidnapping people off the street, firing pepper balls and throwing tear gas canisters with abandon, and, of course, murdering Renee Nicole Good.
 
This comes at the end of Trump’s long first year of his second term, one that has been very bad for working families. Trump has overseen a decidedly weakened labor market and has utterly failed to address rising concerns about affordability. You can’t talk about “affordability” without talking about pay, and the two best methods to raise worker pay – the minimum wage and unions – are nowhere on the Trump agenda. The ending of health insurance premium tax credits enacted under the American Rescue Plan Act are going to harm millions. Trump’s crackdown on immigrants is already hurting all working families regardless of citizenship.
 
But everywhere, together, we persist. The EARN network’s focus on fighting for change at the state and local level is more important than ever in the face of a federal government uninterested in looking out for working families. 
 
We’re eager to stay in touch and know how we can support your legislative priorities, as well as to know what’s worrying you and what’s exciting you about the year ahead. Connection matters, especially in perilous times.
