As ICE activity ramps up across Maine, I want to take a moment to ensure people understand what’s at stake, how they can get involved, and above all else — how to stay safe.

I also want to remind folks that when we’re talking about these surges and raids, the lives of real people are being impacted. Parents are taking their kids out of school, people are afraid to leave home, and real families are being torn apart by these inhumane actions.

A mother of four with no discernible criminal history was snatched in Portland yesterday after dropping her kids off at school — ICE called this operation the “Catch of the Day,” targeting the “worst of the worst” criminals.

This is unacceptable.

That’s why we’re speaking out and fighting back — but we also need to stay safe.
