[ [link removed] ]Tell Congress It's Time to Hold ICE Accountable
Hi John,
The killing of Renee Good in Minneapolis was only two weeks ago, which is
hard to believe. But the news of ICE's abusive tactics just keeps coming,
with the [ [link removed] ]latest report saying they detained a five-year-old child and
sent him to Texas, despite him having an active asylum case.
And it's easy to understand why ICE is behaving this way — they feel
empowered to by their leadership. [ [link removed] ]In a recently leaked memo, ICE
leadership told its officers they can forcibly enter homes without
judicial warrants, in contradiction of the Fourth Amendment and a shift
from prior policy.
It's time for Congress to step up, investigate ICE and hold its leadership
to account. They are voting on a budget bill this week, but [ [link removed] ]because the
One Big Beautiful Bill Act dramatically increased spending on ICE, the
agency has more than enough funding to continue these operations.
[ [link removed] ]Congress needs to hold hearings and demand leadership explain the
agency's lack of accountability, poor training, use of excessive force,
detaining of American citizens, and the disregard for people's
constitutional rights.
If the executive branch won't stop itself, it's up to Congress to check
abuses of power.
