They detained a 5 year old and arrested a civil rights lawyer this week John.

Jan 22 – On January 7, ICE murdered Renee Good in Minneapolis, MN. Just a few days later partners across the country stood up the Ice Out of Everywhere weekend of mobilization. But in the two weeks since then, ICE has only intensified their attacks on Minnesota communities.
Yesterday ICE detained four children there, including a 5-year-old who they used as “bait” to try and entrap others. Today they arrested a prominent civil rights attorney and at least two other people involved in an anti-immigration protest at a church*.
In response to these and many other atrocities, community leaders in Minnesota are calling for a full-day economic blackout tomorrow – January 23. Economic blackouts are similar to a "general strike" in that everyone is encouraged to skip work or school (except for emergency services) and businesses close. Nearly 2,000 people walked out of work with us earlier this week and now the same coalition that helped organize the No Kings rallies is joining them in solidarity. Join us:
* Jesus famously disrupted many religious services including one where he threw out money lenders.
** Note the House is set to vote later today, Thursday, on a spending bill to fund ICE. See our message from yesterday for more details or to call Congress.

This has been a fast moving story for weeks, so if you need to catch up or grab signs, toolkits and more materials – use the links and information below.
Jan 9 – A quick update as a lot has happened this week and there are a LOT of events planned this weekend in response.
First and foremost, like all of you We are outraged by the killing of Renee Nicole Good by ICE. She was a 37 year old wife and mother of three children who loved to sing and studied creative writing and she was shot in the face by an ICE agent. We grieve her death and the deaths of all those killed in ICE detention.
We also know that Ms. Good’s killing was not an isolated incident, but the devastating and predictable result of ICE’s lawless operations and President Trump’s abuse of power. For months, ICE and CBP have endangered our communities. Our neighbors fear for their livelihoods and their lives, and our communities are less safe – our first big action of 2025 was a. We won’t stand for it.
That’s why, to demand accountability for the murder of Renee Nicole Good, and put an end to ICE and CBP raids we joined the same coalition that helped organize the No Kings rallies in 2025 for ICE Out, Everywhere, rallies this Jan 10-12.
We ALSO continued to support Chevron and Citgo focussed actions, which are aimed at the corporations and billionaires who stand to benefit from Trump’s illegal war for oil in Venezuela. You can also check out the talking points memo from our friends at Oil Change International which has tons of facts and stats you can use to educate and mobilize. And you can encourage more members of Congress to support this oppose the war by sending them a letter here.

A lot of events will include messages about both ending the war for oil and getting Ice Out of our communities. And, of course, you're always welcome to attend more than one event and be as involved as you want to be in organizing. But if you're trying to decide which event to host or join this weekend, consider this: The ICE Out rallies will have bigger crowds, lower risk, but will also not directly confront the people and corporations supporting Fossil Fueled Fascism in the US. The Chevron and Citgo actions this weekend will directly confront the corporations and billionaires behind war and militarized police – but they may be smaller, more militant, and/or include non violent direct action which carries additional risks.
Whatever you chose to do this weekend, we encourage you to center solidarity with individuals and communities already impacted by ICE, violence, and militarism. This could include reading the names of individuals killed by ICE in chants, speeches, and signs. Check out the blog post for a list of names and stories, and check out the host guides above for lots more tips, advice, and facts.
Stay safe and in the streets,
