It shouldn't be controversial to say that there’s no room for politicians in the exam room.

john,

Today marks the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision—a landmark case that affirmed a woman's right to abortion care and her right to privacy in medical decision-making.

For decades, Roe meant that women could make deeply personal healthcare choices without political interference. But even with that protection in place, access was never guaranteed.

Women were harassed outside of clinics.

Doctors were pressured and threatened.

Activist lawmakers chipped away at Roe at every opportunity, passing restrictions designed to make care harder to get, especially for low-income women and women in rural communities. These were medically unnecessary restrictions, like hallway width, waiting periods, and proximity to a hospital, even though abortion is less risky than wisdom tooth extraction.

And then, a GOP-stacked Supreme Court did what anti-abortion politicians had been working toward for years. With the Dobbs v. Jackson decision, Roe was overturned—and millions of women lost a fundamental right overnight.

But let me be clear, john: I'm a doctor. I believe in healthcare access, ALL healthcare, for every American. Why a woman wants an abortion is no one's business but her own. Full stop. It should always be a decision made between a patient and her doctor, not dictated by politicians.

Far too many lawmakers have made it their personal mission to insert themselves into these conversations, but I want you to know exactly where I stand:

I will always stand for abortion rights.

I will always stand with women.

And I will always use my time in Congress to fight for affordable access to healthcare for everyone.

If you can, please chip in anything you can today to help me keep doing the work to make Roe the law of the land and stop these attacks.
