John, Fifty-three years ago, a 7-2 Supreme Court majority ruled to protect a woman's right to abortion under the Constitution. Four years ago, this landmark decision was reversed. We've lived in an America without protections for women’s reproductive health care for almost four years now, John. Here's what that looks like and how that affects our country: Since the day Roe was overturned, Republicans have seized the opportunity to push their anti-abortion agenda. As of today, 20 states either ban abortion or restrict the procedure earlier than the standard set by Roe v. Wade. This means that over 62 million women and their doctors must work within a maze of laws set by politicians and state courts who think they know what's best for their bodies and their future. For people with money and time, this means traveling hundreds of miles out of state for abortion care. For those who are unable to afford the travel costs, they are either forced to carry an unwanted or unsafe pregnancy or wait until they are to the point of almost dying to get an abortion. Doctors, at the same time, are unable to rely on their expertise and must navigate these laws, no matter what may be in the best interest of their patients. The reality is that these attacks won’t ever end until we have leaders who are committed to standing up for women's reproductive health and freedoms.
