On this day, 53 years ago, the United States Supreme Court issued a landmark decision protecting the fundamental right to abortion.
Roe v. Wade was the law of the land for nearly 50 years, until Donald Trump’s far-right Supreme Court overturned it in 2022.
In doing so, he and his MAGA allies have left the essential rights to privacy, choice, and bodily autonomy in the hands of MAGA legislators across the country.
What we’ve witnessed since has been nothing short of calculated attacks on reproductive rights — attacks Maria Lazar and Tom Tiffany are bringing right to Wisconsin.
Maria Lazar, far-right candidate for Wisconsin Supreme Court, has publicly praised the decision to overturn Roe and stood with MAGA candidate for governor Tom Tiffany in calling for a 6-week abortion ban.
This can’t be understated: If they both succeed in their races, Maria Lazar could rubber stamp a six-week abortion ban that the GOP legislature places on Tom Tiffany’s desk in 2028.
We can’t let that happen.
