Start buying spring turkey permits
Permits for the 2026 spring turkey season went on sale beginning Jan. 12 — take advantage of the opportunity for a fun pursuit and potentially a tasty dinner. Note that non-resident permits have sold out, except for spring landowner and youth permits.

CWD cases detected
During the November and December deer seasons, staff conducted chronic wasting disease surveillance in southwestern Nebraska, detecting 197 positive cases in deer. CWD surveillance in Nebraska is implemented in four to seven units each year, rotating to a different part of the state. New this year, hunters were able to request mail-in sampling kits.
