The NAACP has a history of taking stands against civil rights injustice and organizing to call out overreach from law enforcement official. What’s happening with ICE — not only in Minnesota, but across the country — is cause for alarm.
“We have not seen this extreme escalation of activities from our law enforcement in my history,” says Derrick Johnson, President of the NAACP, who joined journalist Sarah Rumpf.
Johnson did address some positive opportunities that could come from this, pointing to the creativity coming from activists who have come together to educate others. He hopes that events like the “No Kings” Protests are able to inspire more people to get involved now and through the midterm season this November.
