This year we need to move faster to beat Reform UK

Hi John,

Yesterday in Horsley, Derbyshire, Reform UK were beaten in a local by-election.

That didn’t happen by accident.

Local people organised, spoke to voters, and made it clear that Reform UK offered no solutions for their community. It’s proof that when they are challenged locally, they can be stopped.

But we can’t be complacent.

There are growing rumours of a Westminster by-election in Gorton. Together with dozens of local by-elections taking place across England, Wales, and Scotland, and more likely to be announced at short notice.

We have to be ready to challenge Reform everywhere.

2026 will be a pivotal year. Reform are trying to turn momentum into permanent local power. Whether they succeed depends on whether they are allowed to organise unchallenged at street level.

Their strategy is simple: turn up everywhere and hope no one pushes back.

But Horsley showed what happens when ordinary people do push back.

At HOPE not hate we spend every day researching, tracking where groups are organising, and polling communities to understand what actually changes minds and turnout. That insight is what allows us to act quickly, support people locally, and stop Reform gaining ground.

This year, we are putting everything we know into a new initiative called Vote HOPE 2026. It’s about backing people in communities under pressure to organise locally, make elections visible, and refuse to let Reform UK go unchallenged.

But the window is tight, John.

By-elections are already happening. May’s elections are approaching fast. And to be ready, we need to raise £10,000, by next Friday.
