Dear John,

The murder of Renee Good by an ICE officer on January 7 has shocked the conscience of the nation. But instead of investigating the murder and holding the officer accountable, the Trump administration has escalated a campaign of chaos and terror on the people of Minneapolis, and they are promising federal agents responsible for such heinous acts immunity for their actions.

As the people of Minneapolis are organizing and fighting back, so too are many of us, along with our communities, in Los Angeles and throughout the state

At schools and in communities across Minneapolis, thousands are organizing into networks, protecting vulnerable neighbors, and observing ICE officers wherever they go. Our sibling public school unions and fellow labor unions have been preparing, and are at the center of the resistance.

Now, dozens of unions, community, and faith based organizations are urging every Minnesotan to take a stand on January 23rd with a unified, statewide pause in economic activity; what the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation is calling for a day of truth and freedom with no shopping, no work, and no school.

We stand in solidarity with the brave people of Minneapolis, who are courageously standing up to the authoritarianism of the Trump administration. And we encourage all CFT members and community allies to take online action demanding the corporations that are aiding the ICE terror campaign to stop immediately, including Target, Home Depot, Enterprise, Hilton, and Delta. ?

For more on how to support parents, educators, and child care workers in Minnesota, and how to protect your own communities, the AFT is co-hosting a national webinar tonight from 5:00-7:00 p.m., PT. Please register here, and look for more events and actions in your local communities.

We also urge all CFT members to take this time to connect with your local union, to continue to educate and empower yourselves so that we too can be prepared for the possibility of similar occupations in our cities.

The CFT stands in solidarity with our communities who are under attack in this country; the CFT stands in solidarity with our union siblings who are showing up against fascism; and the CFT will continue to stand against the unlawful acts of the Trump administration. ?
