Dear Law Center supporters,
Across the country, we are seeing a dangerous shift in how homelessness is being addressed — away from housing and healthcare, and toward punishment and detention camps. The Trump administration has talked about this for years. Now, Utah’s governor wants to use federal funds to realize Trump’s vision of a massive, government-run homeless detention camp. We cannot let this happen.

History has shown us time and again that detention camps, forced treatment, and laws that make it a crime to be homeless don't work. They cause harm, waste public resources, undermine basic human dignity, and exacerbate racial injustice. We know what actually solves homelessness: housing and healthcare, not handcuffs and detention camps.
Join us on Jan 29th to fight back!
We're fighting back by launching the No Federal Funding for Homeless Detention Camps campaign and calling on people from across the country to join us. On January 29 at 4:30–6:00 PM ET, we’ll host a national webinar to unpack what’s happening in Utah, examine the
federal funding implications, understand the impacts to our unhoused neighbors, and outline how advocates can take coordinated action to stop this proposal before it spreads to other states.
Join us to:
- Learn about the proposal for a homeless detention camp in Utah from folks on the ground
- Hear from leaders in immigrant rights, mental health, and legal advocacy
- Strategize to stop this and any other future detention camp proposals
We hope to see you on the 29th!
