In recent election cycles, the Democratic Party has lost major ground with Latino voters — especially in Texas. But we’re putting in the resources to reverse that trend.
We just launched a statewide Spanish-language TV ad — earlier than any campaign in modern Texas history.
I want to explain more about this decision and why it’s important to me in a moment, but if you understand the stakes and why this matters, please consider making a contribution to our campaign today. Airing this new Spanish-language ad is a major budget decision, but it could be what makes the difference in this race.
If we have any hope of taking back our beloved state, we have to engage more meaningfully with Latino communities and take no one for granted.
It’s going to require trying new things and putting in the extra work to meet people where they are and be thoughtful in how we spread our message.
That’s why we’re barnstorming the state and holding open town halls right in voters’ communities.
It’s why we’re designing our organizing and volunteer training materials in Spanish so we can reach voters at the doors in their own language.
It’s why we’re showing up on voters’ screens with our Spanish-language social media channels — speaking to folks directly in my (imperfect) Spanish.
And it’s why we’re investing major resources into reaching the 8 million Spanish-speaking Texans at scale on TV with this new Spanish-language ad.
Our party has a lot of work to do. If we’re going to win, we have to listen to, learn from, and earn the trust of Latino communities across the state — and we have to invest in reaching folks where they are.
All of this work takes significant resources. And I know that, if we want to win in November, this work has to start now.
