Hey John,
I was thrilled to get this message from Amber, Advocates’ Director of Public Policy, yesterday:
As Amber says, this change is in direct response to activist pressure. Losing that funding would have caused harm to people living with HIV and impeded people working to prevent HIV, so this win is big.
I’m excited that the news came in while applications to be a National Youth HIV & AIDS day Ambassador are open. Ambassadors ages 13-24 work in their communities to share factual sexual health information, organize actions to address the impact of HIV & AIDS on youth, and create community spaces for healing and reflection. They are leading HIV activism - and you or a young person you know can join them.
Apply today - and share this email with an amazing young person you know.
Tre’Darian, a youth activist with ECHO (Engaging Communities around HIV Organizing), said of yesterday’s win: “It’s so exciting! I’m glad that we are still out here fighting for our future, and making sure we work for the future of others!”
That’s the energy I’m carrying through 2026, and I hope you will join me!
Apply to be a NYHAAD Ambassador.
Sincerely,
Armonte Butler
Associate Director of LGBTQ Health & Rights
