Gather signatures for Connect Bay Area |
Connect Bay Area is a Regional Transportation Ballot Measure to reimagine and reinvest in a system that serves today’s riders and inspires the next generation.
Bay Area public transit agencies are facing devastating service cuts next year. BART is projecting 80% service cuts – cutting two lines, closing stations, and eliminating weekend service – and Caltrain, Muni, and AC Transit are projecting cuts between 37% and 50% of service.
The Connect Bay Area Transit measure will raise nearly $1 billion a year to stop these cuts. Advocates are collecting signatures across the 5 counties of the Bay Area to qualify this measure for the November election, and they need your help to gather signatures! This effort is kicking off with a day of action on Friday, January 23 with events across the Bay Area throughout the day. You can find more information and RSVP here.
Meet up with other transit advocates throughout the Bay Area: -
San Francisco Kickoff: 10 - 11:15 am, near the Ferry Building
- Alameda County Kickoff: 12:15 - 12:45 pm, near Lake Merritt BART
- Contra Costa County Kickoff: 12:30 - 1pm, near Pleasant Hill BART
-
San Mateo County Kickoff: 12:45 - 1pm, at Courthouse Square in Redwood City
- Santa Clara County Kickoff: 1:15pm - 1:45 pm, near San Jose Diridon Station

Take Action:
Finish the Red Transit-only Lanes On Ocean Ave |
SFMTA’s plan to paint transit lanes on Ocean Avenue has been delayed due to pushback from businesses on Ocean, according to this article from The Ingleside Light. The project was approved in 2024 and is almost to completion, but the merchant’s association is pushing back against the red lanes because it will reduce car traffic to one lane in each direction.
The red lanes are needed to improve the travel time of the K-Ingleside by 10-20% and provide a layer of safety for pedestrians in an already high-injury area from traffic collisions.
Letting the project backslide will waste the investment made in the project while endangering lives in a high-injury area due to vehicle collisions and unsafe speeds. To show support for the Red Lanes, you can use this Action Network campaign or this guide to send in your own personal message to the decision makers.

Gender-based Harassment on Transit Led by Indigo
This project aims to raise awareness of sexual harassment on public transportation without stigmatizing transit, while collecting data on these incidents. The project has two components: a social media campaign and the development of a reporting platform using ArcGIS Pro.
The platform can be used by participants to pinpoint where their experience occurred and provide a brief description of what happened. This will create a database of where these incidents are occurring, which can provide useful information to public transit agencies.
We are seeking support from members with GIS experience, as well as help designing and implementing the social media campaign.

| Bus Stop Census Led by Aaron
This project is inspired by MARTA Army’s Bus Census from Atlanta, Georgia - we will be doing our own census through building a website and a workflow to collect and share data on the conditions and amenities at bus stops to use to advocate for better bus stops, like when MTC is updating their wayfinding across the region.
