16 years ago today, the Supreme Court issued its Citizens United ruling, unleashing corporate money into our elections. The fight to overturn it continues.
John,
Sixteen years ago today, the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision gave corporations the “right” to spend unlimited sums of money to influence our elections. Since then, we’ve watched political spending from corporations and big money interests flood our elections, drowning out the voices of everyday voters. Billionaires, corporations, and dark money groups spent a record $4.5 billion to influence federal elections in 2024 alone.
Millions of Americans agree—our campaign finance system is fundamentally broken. Congress must get big money out of politics and restore democratic power to the ballot box where it belongs.
