Dear John:

Last week in Minnesota, the reality of "sanctuary" policies hit a breaking point. While I’m in D.C. fighting for common-sense border security, the brave men and women of ICE are on the ground in our state doing the job that Governor Walz and Mayor Frey refuse to do.

The lawlessness reached a sickening low this week when a federal officer was viciously ambushed in Minneapolis. He was beaten with a snow shovel and a broom handle by three individuals. One of which never should been in our country in the first place. One of the attackers, Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, had already been in local custody, but was released back into our community because local authorities ignored an ICE detainer.

ICE is Removing Criminals From Minnesota

These arrests are not just occuring in the metro area; ICE has removed violent illegal aliens from all over Minnesota! Here are some of the criminals that ICE has arrested in the district.

Edgar Reyes-Solano: Illegal alien from Mexico, arrested in Morris for molestation of a minor.

Jaime Herrera Sanchez: Illegal alien from Mexico, arrested in Willmar for rape.

Jorge Soto Reyes: Illegal alien from Mexico, arrested in Olivia for possession of amphetamines.

Francisco Castro-Loreno: Illegal alien from Guatemala, arrested in Wadena for identity theft.

Mark Williams: Illegal alien from Liberia, arrested in Moorhead for sexual assault and sodomy of a girl.

Ermin Saric: Illegal alien from Bosnia, arrested in Fergus Falls for possession of amphetamine.

Pregnancy Center Funding Bill Passes Committee

I am proud to announce that my legislation, the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act, has officially passed the House Ways and Means Committee. This is a major victory for mothers and families across Minnesota and the country. Pregnancy centers are a lifeline in our communities, providing the material and emotional support that empowers women to choose life.

Safety, Strength & Spending Cuts

Last Wednesday, I supported two appropriations bills: Financial Services & General Government and National Security, Department of State, & Related Programs.

Here are a few highlights from each:

Financial Services & General Government

  • Prohibits the IRS from targeting people who exercise their First Amendment rights.
  • Protects Americans from deadly drugs like fentanyl by investing in the High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program.
  • Ensures the US has the needed tools to investigate foreign investments from countries like China.

National Security, Department of State, & Related Programs

  • Cuts $9.3 billion in wasteful spending.
  • Eliminates wasteful spending on DEI programming and climate change mandates.
  • Increases support for religious freedom programs and demands protections for faith-based organizations.

Protecting Your Nest Egg

I led the debate and helped pass the Protecting Prudent Investment of Retirement Savings Act to reverse a Biden Administration rule that allowed retirement fund managers to prioritize environmental, social, and governance factors over proven financial performance. This bill requires fund managers to focus solely on returns, ensuring financial security for 152 million Americans. HR 2988 puts the focus back where it belongs: on the financial security of American workers, retirees, and their families.
