Today, the DC Working Families Party is proud to announce our endorsements of Janeese Lewis George for Mayor of Washington, D.C. and Robert White for Congress in the June 16 primary. This election is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build real governing power for working people in the District.
With an open mayoral seat and unprecedented turnover reshaping the D.C. Council, our city is at a crossroads. Working families are being squeezed by rising housing costs and displacement, persistent racial and economic inequities, increased federal interference in local governance, and an economy that makes it harder for workers and small businesses alike to survive.
Janeese Lewis George is a proven leader with deep neighborhood roots and a track record of turning progressive values into real wins. On the D.C. Council, she has been the District’s most tenacious advocate for fully funding childcare and passing the Pay Equity Fund for childcare workers. As mayor, Janeese will focus on keeping families in their homes, connecting people to good-paying jobs, supporting small businesses, delivering excellent public services, and protecting D.C.’s right to govern itself so that every resident can thrive.
Robert White is a fifth-generation Washingtonian and a tireless fighter for working families. As Chair of the Council’s Committee on Housing, he secured critical funding for affordable housing, expanded paid family leave, strengthened worker protections, and passed landmark legislation restoring voting rights to residents incarcerated with felony convictions. In Congress, Robert will be a powerful advocate for D.C. statehood, federal investments in working families, and defending the District against political interference and gamesmanship.
Our plan is to knock doors, engage voters face-to-face, and build the grassroots infrastructure needed not only to win on Election Day, but to govern effectively afterward alongside our partners. We are proud to stand with labor allies including 32BJ SEIU, ATU Local 689, UFCW Local 400, and UNITE HERE Locals 23 and 25 in supporting this vision for D.C.’s future.
