John,
Lina Khan is one of my heroes. She represents what the Democratic Party could and should be moving forward. I was so glad she was able to stop by the Coffee Klatch this week to talk with Inequality Media Civic Action’s Executive Director Heather Lofthouse and me.
Formerly the monopoly-busting FTC Chair in the Biden administration, Lina is now heading up the transition team for Mayor Zohran Mamdani in New York City.
I hope you’ll watch our video this week, as we talk with Lina Khan about Trump’s fake populism, and the real things she and Mayor Mamdani are doing right now for the people of New York.
Is Trump’s populism for real? We talk about the disconnect between Trump’s projection of himself as a “populist,” and what he’s really doing behind the scenes to let powerful corporations off the hook.
Meanwhile, New York City is a ray of hope. What exactly is Khan up to in her exciting work with Mamdani? We talk about some of the initiatives they are rolling out right now to crack down on corporate power and empower working New Yorkers.
Finally, we explore what the Democrats can learn from Khan and Mamdani, and how we can push the party toward a winning platform of genuine economic populism.
I hope you’ll enjoy our conversation as much as I did.
As always, thank you for watching.
