Dear Health Advocates,

This week, Congressional leadership released the final details of a bipartisan spending package to avoid a partial government shutdown on January 30. The deal boosts defense funding and funds the Departments of Health and Human Services, Labor, Housing and Urban Development, Transportation, Education, and Homeland Security — albeit with funding cuts to some. Notably missing from the proposal is an extension of the enhanced premium tax credits. Senate leadership still has not set a date to vote on the three-year extension the House passed two weeks ago. There are ongoing bipartisan negotiations as senators try to come to an agreement on a solution to extend the tax credits.

2026 is here and ACA Marketplace Open Enrollment has closed without an extension of the enhanced tax credits. Millions of Americans will now see their premiums rise, and many Americans will choose to forego coverage because of these increases once they receive their bills. Congress needs to take action and ensure this does not continue in future Open Enrollments. We must demand from Congress that they extend the enhanced premium tax credits NOW.

You can find resources and ways to take action, including direct links to message Congress and share your story, on our Lower Health Care Costs Now campaign page.
