Carlos Roa was half-asleep the morning of Jan. 3 when his spouse pressed a phone close to his face, showing him the news ([link removed]) that a U.S. military operation captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Roa, a Venezuelan American journalist and editor based in Pittsburgh, soon began worrying for his cousin, who lives near one of the targets of American bombs.
His cousin checked in hours later, safe. Roa exhaled, opened a bottle of wine and made celebratory calls to relatives ([link removed]) .
