John, it’s Congresswoman Valerie Foushee –
Today, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. King not only by remembering his words, but by recommitting ourselves to the work he began: the ongoing fight for justice, equality, and opportunity for all.
Dr. King helped change the course of history, and his legacy challenges each of us to do more than reflect, but to act. As we honor the sacrifices that brought our nation to this moment, we must also look forward, determined to build a future that lives up to his vision.
We are living in a moment of deep political division. Yet as we continue our work for justice and equality, I hope we can hold fast to the words of Dr. King: “We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.”
May we honor his legacy today, and every day, by choosing hope, justice, and progress for generations to come.
Sincerely,
Valerie Foushee
