# [#]John,
As we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy, I want to reflect on the profound impact his vision continues to have on our beloved city. Dr. King's tireless commitment to justice, equality, and the belief that all people deserve to live in a society of peace and opportunity remains a guiding light as we strive to build a better tomorrow.
The heart of Philadelphia lies with the same spirit of determination that fueled Dr. King's mission. In our great city, his dream takes shape through these daily acts of compassion and courage — from neighbors looking out for one another to activists fighting for meaningful change.
Honoring Dr. King means not only reflecting on the great strides we've made since his time but also acknowledging the work that remains. As Council President, I see the inequities that continue to persist in our city firsthand — from housing accessibility to educational opportunities. The fight for justice is far from over. That is why we must answer Dr. King’s call and, as he urged, “re-dedicate ourselves to the long and bitter, but beautiful, struggle for a new world.”
Honoring Dr. King’s legacy requires more than reflection on just one day a year — it demands action every single day. Let us come together and reaffirm our commitment to creating a community where every voice is heard and every person has the chance to thrive.
Thank you,
— Council President Kenyatta Johnson
