John,
This week, Canada’s Federal Court of Appeal delivered a decisive ruling that goes to the heart of our democracy.

The Court confirmed that Justin Trudeau’s invocation of the Emergencies Act against peaceful Freedom Convoy protesters was unreasonable, unlawful, and a serious abuse of power.
Canadians’ fundamental rights were violated — and the government had no legal justification to do so.
This ruling matters not only because it vindicates those who were targeted in 2022, but because it exposes a deeper problem in Ottawa: when government power expands, the political class rarely pushes back.
Too often, politicians across party lines fall into line — offering excuses, hedging their criticism, or speaking out only after public pressure becomes unavoidable.
In moments of crisis, Canadians are told to trust authority, suspend debate, and accept extraordinary measures “for the greater good.”
The People’s Party of Canada took a different position from the start.
The Court has now confirmed what we argued all along.
This decision is an important victory for civil liberties. It sets a clear limit on how far a government can go when faced with dissent, and it sends a strong signal that emergency powers must never be used as a political tool.
But court rulings alone are not enough.
If Canadians want to ensure that this kind of overreach never happens again, we need more than retrospective accountability.
We need a political movement that is prepared to defend fundamental freedoms in real time, not after the fact.
John, that is why the People’s Party exists.

P.S.: This ruling sets an important precedent, but the pressure to expand state power will return. With your support, we will be ready to push back — clearly, consistently, and without compromise.
