Dear John, Join us this Wednesday, January 21st as we gather in community to hold a space for peace in our lives. We all feel it. There is a bone-deep tiredness that has taken over in these last few weeks as we watch the horrific videos coming from Minnesota and see the rapid destabilization of international order. Of course, the on-going horrors of what is happening in Gaza continue unabated. We can't turn away, and we are tired. Bone tired. CODEPINK has been talking about building community for many years. Community is where we can commit to action and make tangible, empowering contributions for peace and life. The vice-grip of disempowerment loosens with every action we take to cultivate a future of peace, connection and care. I don't live in MN, and there is very little I can do to help there. But I can work with my neighbors to cultivate a strong community of trust, relationship and the capacity to meet the uncertain future for our neighbors. I can walk away from the lies of the war economy, and start creating a future grounded in peace and care. Creating and fostering a Local Peace Economy has always been the answer to this moment in history. In the study of collapse of empire, those staying with the old system die and those who use their feet and walk away are the creators of what is next. But how do we walk away? It all starts with the pivot, and that is the responsibility of each of us. Consider joining us this Wednesday as we discuss the pivots to peace, the pillars that will hold a lasting community of peace where we are planted.
Thank you to all of you who joined us for our last Local Peace Economy Gathering on January 7th. We heard so much positive feedback from you about how good it felt to have a deep, honest, and ultimately uplifting conversation about the moment we find ourselves in. Jodie shared with everyone a fascinating document filled with insights about poverty in the U.S., contextualizing the widespread suffering the war economy creates. There were so many new faces at this meeting, and we hope to see everyone on our next call in just a few days. Mark Your Calendars: The on-going writing workshop is a monthly place to connect with other creative souls. Read aloud works of poetry or prose in a supportive environment of your peers. This meeting is the 2nd Thursday of the month. Sign up for February's workshop, and bring your creativity to a warm and supportive group of fellow peace economy advocates.
