John, I'm excited to share the latest from CRC with you:

  • Who's behind vote-by-mail?
Seemingly overnight, pundits and politicians are advocating for nationwide vote-by-mail this November because of the coronavirus pandemic. A network of political organizations--some left-wing, some center-right--is pushing for election "reforms," including making vote-from-home permanent. CRC's Shane Devine exposes the central player that ties them all together here.
  • Snopes "fact-checks" a CRC post. Hilarity ensues.
In a June blog post, I reported that Susan Rosenberg, a convicted terrorist pardoned by Bill Clinton, is a board member of Thousand Currents, a nonprofit that fiscally sponsors the largest Black Lives Matter group. Unable to debunk the Rosenberg connection, Snopes agonized over whether a self-proclaimed revolutionary tied to shootings, bombings, and robberies, who was arrested with hundreds of pounds of explosives and dozens of illegal firearms, really fits the definition of "terrorist." Not since President Bill Clinton wrestled with the meaning of what "is" is has America witnessed such tortured verbal parsing, as CRC's Sarah Lee reports here.
  • Are teachers' unions trying to extort U.S. taxpayers?
As states and municipalities begin lifting the coronavirus shutdowns, some workers find teachers' unions are blocking a return to something like normality. The American Federation of Teachers is brutally frank, demanding $117 billion in federal taxpayer funding or else "school buildings will stay shuttered and America's families will endure another academic year of at-home learning." CRC's Michael Watson calls the unions on their extortion here.
  • Who is bankrolling a new pro-Biden super PAC?
Victory 2020, a new pro-Biden super PAC, received 96 percent of its $5.9 million bankroll from the Sixteen Thirty Fund. Sixteen Thirty is the lobbying wing of Arabella Advisors' $635 million empire, which a CRC report exposed in 2019. CRC's Hayden Ludwig digs deeper into Victory 2020 and its primary sponsor here.

The Hurdles of
Re‑opening Schools

In this episode, a teachers' union's demands are clear: government-run Medicare for all, state wealth taxes and income tax hikes, and defunding the police. Those are just three of the demands that United Teachers Los Angeles has set out as conditions to return to classrooms this fall. We are joined by Daniel DiSlavo, Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute and professor of political science at the City College of New York, to discuss the debate over schools in the fall and the role teachers' unions play in keeping them closed and cities locked down.
