John,
On January 7th in Minneapolis, 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good was shot and killed by an ICE officer. Good was a mother of three, a U.S. citizen, and a beloved member of her community. Her murder has sparked protests from New York to California, and citizens are outraged by ICE’s use of deadly force and lack of transparency.
Despite eyewitness accounts and crystal clear footage of Good’s killing, federal authorities are pushing their own completely manufactured version of events and limiting access to critical evidence.
Good’s murder is not an isolated incident. Human rights organizations and immigration advocates have been warning of harmful conditions and abuses in ICE detention facilities and by ICE officers. Communities nationwide have been living in fear as ICE conducts violent operations in their neighborhoods.
Right now, Congress is negotiating the funding bills that will shape how the Department of Homeland Security operates in the year ahead. Sign on now to tell your members of Congress to halt DHS and ICE funding immediately until independent investigations are completed and lethal enforcement tactics are stopped.
We cannot and will not stand by while innocent lives are lost, families are torn apart, and human rights are violated.
Thank you,
Democratic Values
