John, I want to share the note I sent you three years ago today, on the day I was sworn in as Pennsylvania’s 48th Governor.

It’s no secret that Pennsylvania has changed since that day. Our country has changed, our communities have changed — and the challenges we face as a nation have never been more palpable.

But I believe these words are evergreen, John. They ring just as true today as they did three years ago.

I hope you’ll take a minute to read my note below — and if these words inspire you to forge ahead and fight for Pennsylvania’s future, then I have a humble request: Will you chip in to help me keep up the good work?

John,

This morning, I took the oath of office and was sworn in as Pennsylvania's 48th Governor.

As I addressed the people of our Commonwealth, I talked about some of the stories I heard as I traveled across Pennsylvania these last two years. Stories of people who inspired me, who taught me. Stories that have driven me to serve.

Stories from people like the grandmom in Lawrence County who told me not to let us go back to what it was like before Roe.

Stories from people like Tim, who did backbreaking work on our roadways, just to have company executives steal his hard-earned benefits.

I’m mindful of the fact that folks shared those stories — thousands of you, all across our Commonwealth — because you believe I can make a difference for you.

John, I’m truly humbled that the people of Pennsylvania have entrusted me with that responsibility. Not just the responsibility to serve as your 48th Governor, but the responsibility to stand up for what’s right, to bring people together, and to get real things done.

The people have given us a clear mandate. Not just by virtue of the historic number of votes for our campaign, but by the way we all came together — by what that number represents. Democrats, Republicans, Independents, rural, urban, and suburban voters from across the Commonwealth.

You sent a clear message when you came together to resoundingly reject extremism.

Together, hope defeated fear.

Unity triumphed over division.

We proved that we value our freedoms, and we’re willing to do the hard work necessary to protect our fundamental rights.

And so, with my faith firmly rooted in we the people of Pennsylvania, with my heart open to others and my eyes fixed ahead, I am prepared to do my part to move our Commonwealth forward.

Thank you for all the support you’ve provided along the way, my friend. Together, we’re going to build on this historic coalition and get big things done for Pennsylvania.

With gratitude,

Josh Shapiro
Governor of Pennsylvania
