My warmest congratulations to Governor Abigail Spanberger, who was sworn into office today, and best wishes to Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill as she prepares to take the oath on Tuesday. These victories are an inspiring reminder of what’s possible not just for Virginia and New Jersey, but what is possible for our country during these difficult times.
As our nation faces real threats to our democracy from Donald Trump, women governors are stepping up, fighting back, and delivering results. They’re proving what strong, competent leadership actually looks like, and with their significant wins last November, they are showing how we win in 2026.
The way we stop Trump and his extreme agenda is by building power everywhere and talking about the issues that matter to families. At every level, that’s how we will elect more leaders like Abigail Spanberger and Mikie Sherrill. And the next chance to do that is in November, right here in Maine.
Here’s what I know, John: Democratic governors play a crucial role in protecting our communities, supporting families, and fighting back against Donald Trump’s extreme agenda. And just like I’ve always done, I’ll be on the frontlines standing up for you and delivering on the issues that matter.
I’m running for governor to stand up to Donald Trump and take on the real challenges families are facing, like the need for more affordable housing, rising costs for families, and tackling the growing healthcare crisis. But I can’t do it without you. It’s going to take resources, organizing, and all of us showing up.
