Public service has always meant a lot to me, John. That’s what led me to serve as a chaplain in a children’s hospital, a Lutheran minister in rural Virginia, and it’s what led me to run for State Senate in the first place.
When I see people in my community being left behind, I stand up. That’s why I’m running for Congress too – because Zach Nunn is selling us out to the highest bidder, and we deserve better.
I’ve stood up to bullies who demonized our teachers and attacked our public schools.
I’ve stood up for reproductive rights by sponsoring legislation to protect contraception and IVF.
And I’ve stood up to political insiders here in Iowa —to try and ban stock trading by politicians and pass term limits — because politics as usual isn't working for anyone.
