Tell Congress: Protect Press Freedom Now > [link removed]

Friend,

On Thursday, FBI agents invaded the home of Washington Post reporter Hannah Natanson and seized her computers, journalistic materials — even personal items and jewelry.

This is exactly the kind of violation the First Amendment was designed to prevent.

Natanson's reporting focused on exposing what's happening inside the federal government — a topic of immense public interest. Now the feds have raided her home and confiscated her materials. This undermines Natanson’s protections as a member of the press. It also sends a chilling message to other journalists in America.

Free Press Action joined with 30 other press-freedom and civil-liberties groups in condemning this invasion and calling on Congress to act. We need you with us: Will you add your name to our petition demanding that Congress protect press freedom? *One click on the link or button will instantly add your name to our petition if we have your details on file.*

To the U.S. Congress:

The FBI's raid on Washington Post reporter Hannah Natanson's home and the seizure of her journalistic materials represent an alarming escalation of this administration’s attacks on press freedom. You must do everything you can to protect the First Amendment.

Please take action now: Call on Attorney General Bondi to testify, pass the PRESS Act and reform the Espionage Act so this administration — and any other — can’t treat journalists like spies.

The invasion of Hannah Natanson’s home didn't happen in a vacuum. Under this administration:

* Trump has sued media outlets and called for jailing journalists.
* Attorney General Bondi has weakened protections for the press.
* DHS agents have brutalized journalists covering protests.
* Authorities detained journalist Mario Guevara for filming the police and the administration deported him.

Our country’s founders knew that a free press is essential to creating and keeping public trust in government. We need an independent media to hold those in power accountable. That's why the First Amendment protects journalists' right to publish leaked government secrets — and also safeguards the public’s right to access that information.

When the government targets the press and seizes journalistic materials, there’s a dangerous ripple effect. Other journalists may be less likely to speak out for fear of government retribution — and that in turn undermines our access to trustworthy information and harms our democracy.
