Friend — Days after Donald Trump won the presidential election in 2024, my opponent in this race told the New York Times that Democrats lost because we supported transgender rights too much.

Yes, really. He went on to refer to transgender girls as “males” who will “run over” his daughters on a sports field.

Here’s the difference between me and my opponent: I will not give into right-wing fear-mongering on trans rights or any other issue. I will always support trans people — and trans kids — as they fight for justice and equality.

Trans kids deserve more than to be debated on cable news or in the New York Times. They deserve joy. They deserve health care. They deserve the freedom to choose their own lives. They deserve to grow up knowing that their country has their back.

But let me ask you the real question. If someone can’t even stand up to Donald Trump’s harassment and discrimination against trans people, how can we trust them to stand up to Trump on immigrants rights, on healthcare cuts, on any other issue that our progressive movement champions?

This race is a choice, a choice between capitulation to the far-right and their constant culture war BS, or real leadership that brings everyone along as we fight for the working class of America.
